Just ordered this exciting new book, Slave Hunter by Aaron Cohen and Christine Buckley. I ordered it on Amazon but it is also available directly from the editor at Simon & Schuster.
AbolishSlavery.org wrote a fabulous review about this book.. I'm very excited to read about how Aaon Cohen went from a jett-setting, rock star life in California to fighting human trafficking on the other side of the planet, in some of the world's poorest countries.
We often dream about leaving our lives to do something that matters and helps other people live a better life. This is what Aaron Cohen did and this is what helps us feel we could do the same.
According to UNICEF, 25,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.”Source
Sadly, as the world's wealthiest continue to control a fighteningly large percentage of the world's ressources, the poorest part of the world population have less and less of a chance to have a decent life. With no access to education, running water or electricity, these people are condemned to resort to desperate measures in order to provide for themselves and their loved ones.
Educating oneself in human trafficking is the first step in becoming aware and trying to stop these wretched practises.
Let's show publishing companies that cause-driven books are important, maybe even more today then ever before.
The goal is to get citizens designing and discussing facilities. The project does not address system design, but you could use the same model.
If citizens addressed system design in this project it would probably be useful for discussion purposes only, though, as professionals have more tools and knowledge to create good designs. By crowdsourcing bus stop designs, they are gathering ideas that otherwise might not surface.
